Bank Protection
Soil erosion occurs when the shear force applied by water, ice or wind (or other external influences), exceeds the shear resistance of the surface it is in contact with. Over time, the surface will gradually erode which can lead to loss of land, habitat and infrastructure. To control soil erosion, you must improve the shear resistance of the surface exposed to erosion, or reduce the kinetic energy of the flow.
Our Reno Mattress erosion control blankets are used for river bank and scour protection, channel linings for soil erosion control, and embankment stability. MacMat® provides permanent soil erosion protection on upland slopes, stream banks, wetland boundaries, and shorelines. It is a turf reinforced mat (TRM) used as a permanent soil erosion control blanket of UV stabilized, non-degradable geosynthetic fibers. This roll erosion control product (RECP) is made of a three-dimensional geomat. MacMat® demonstrates how geosynthetics are used for soil erosion control.
Maccaferri Vegetated Engineering Solutions combine soil erosion control and vegetation techniques to provide soil erosion protection and create hospitable conditions for healthy plant growth.
Channel Protection
A channel lining application is one in which an soil erosion control system is used to completely line a channel from one bank to the other where the river banks alone are protected.
Gabion Mats are used for permanent soil erosion control in channels, stream banks, spillways and stable slopes from surficial erosion. The stone confinement within the units allows for higher shear stress resistance than the riprap. Additionally Gabion Weirs and Reno Mattresses provide excellent channel protection from soil erosion.
Slope Revetment
Soil erosion control for slope revetment is used to limit soil erosion generally caused by the effect of the wind or rain. It is use to retain soil moisture, which in turn promotes seed germination. Protect seed and seedlings during heavy rainfall or winds enabling better vegetation establishment.

In addition to the permanent protection MacMat® provides, Biomac® is a range of biodegradable blankets used for temporary erosion control. These roll erosion control products (RECP) act as a reinforced mulch protecting the seeds and soil from erosion.
